Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak visits Serbia today, following Serbian Progression Party leader Tomislav Nikolic’s victory in last weekend’s presidential election.
Lajcak, who is fluent in 9 languages, including Serbian, also makes his trip on behalf of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton. Mr Lajcak is very familiar with the set up in Serbia, and knows many of the politicians there from his time in Bosnia, where he was the EU Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina following the Dayton agreement.
“I bear some messages from Catherine Ashton as well as from [European Commission chairman] Jose Manuel Barroso. And Brussels wants to become familiar with the information I’m to obtain there, too,” Lajčák told the TASR newswire on May 23. He has also penned in meetings with representatives from the main political parties during his visit.
